Homemade Real Strawberry Cake (No Flavorings! No Food Coloring!)

2020-01-26

I love strawberry cake! I hate red food dye! I can always taste it. Even the kind that says you will not taste it. Yeah. It still has a taste. Plus, food dye is just for photos so why bother putting junk into the best, most delicious, fluffy, moist, sweet-but-not-too-sweet strawberry cake? Well, that was sort of rhetorical but it also has an answer. Fresh strawberries have a lot of water in them and using real strawberries to make a cake generally leaves you with a mushy mealy cake that no one wants to eat. Oh, and those fresh strawberries will start molding pretty quickly.Read More →

Sky High Chocolate Peanut Butter Whiskey Layer Cake

2018-06-12

Do you know a peanut butter lover? A chocolate lover? A chocolate peanut butter lover?? And, they like whiskey?!? This is your cake. This cake is not for the faint of heart.? It is massive and massively delicious.? And worth every decadent calorie. Looking for something special to whip up for Father’s day?? This is it! The recipe below makes 1 two layer 8-10 inch cake. The one pictured is a double recipe. If you want a tall cake to feed the masses then double it so that it will be sky high. If you are feeding a few less people then proceed as theRead More →

Gingerbread Cupcakes with Molasses Caramel Frosting

Gingerbread Cupcakes with Molasses Caramel Frosting

2017-12-08

Y’all. No, really, y’all. Y’all, these Gingerbread Cupcakes with Molasses Caramel Frosting might be the most amazing things I’ve ever made. They’re AH-mazing! The frosting. The cake. It is just a marriage of flavor and happiness. Your brain is going to be so happy when you eat these. Your dopamine signals are going to be exploding. Plus, you’ll win your kid’s holiday party snack war (not that there is any such thing as mommy-competition, nope). All in all, on the cupcake side, they are fairly straightforward. The frosting has an extra step but it is worth it. You will need a candy thermometer. If youRead More →

Pumpkin Spice Blend

Recipe: Pumpkin Spice Blend

2017-11-16

‘Tis the Season to Pumpkin Spice Everything This is not #PSL This is, “I’m in a hurry and don’t have time to measure everything out.”  I mean, maybe you could throw it in your latte.  Sure, why not? If you are one of those people who Google things like: “Easy Thanksgiving Desert,” “What can I make and bring to my kid’s school in 30 minutes?,” or “Which spice is pumpkin spice?” then this is the recipe for you. Pumpkin Spice is a blend of spices that can be interchangeably used in all dessert recipes for the months of October and November.  It is basically allRead More →

Mint Chocolate Oreo Ice Cream Brownie Cake

2017-07-23

Fluffy crunchy chewy minty decadence! I wanted to share this one before summer got a way from us because it is so perfect for summer! It’s also a really great base to make any kind of ice cream cake just switch out your ice cream and toppings and you are good to go. I really need to make it again because my picture is actually from an earlier incarnation where I didn’t use Oreos and it was just too much. Like you couldn’t finish a piece because it was so rich and I like to eat my dessert so I found the recipe needed toRead More →

Whipped Cream with Berries

Sweet and Stable Whipped Cream

2017-07-04

Sweet and Stable Whipped Cream Ingredients 1 c. heavy cream, chilled 1/4 c. sour cream or creme fraiche 1/4 c. confectioner’s sugar 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract Recipe Combine the cream sugar and extract. Whip the mixture to soft peaks then add the sour cream.  If you under-whip it a little you can give it a final whip just before serving to get it to your desired consistency. If it will be traveling, chill it in the freezer for 30-60 minutes before you leave.  It will keep 4-6 hours.Read More →
