Brrrrrr, It’s Cold! But, it’s Texas so Winter Camping is a Thing! Recently, we did some family camping at Dinosaur Valley State Park. The forecast was lows in the 40s. They lied! It got down to 29 degrees. It was cooooooold! However, this park is amazing and we still had a great time. Dinosaur Valley SP is located near Glen Rose, TX (Glen Rose is about an hour southwest of Fort Worth). It is a great little town that is big enough for a Dairy Queen and a Holiday Inn Express – so, if the camping doesn’t go according to plan there is a PlanRead More →
San Antonio: Off the Beaten Path and Up in the Air We love trips to San Antonio. It’s three-hour proximity to Houston makes it a vacation staple if you grew up in Houston (or if you’re in for a week and really want to stretch your legs). The Texas Air Museum is one stop I had not made yet. If you’ve done the usual – hey, Shamu! – and you are looking for something more off the beaten path. This little museum will have you covered. You should plan on giving the museum a full hour, but I’m not going to lie we did itRead More →
Wowza! I just finished my last little travel journal entry. I managed to sum up our trip in a measly 9,000 words. Thanks for hanging in there! As soon as I get the pictures sorted out I’ll make the rest of the travel journal public. Hopefully, within the week. It is all so dependent on how much alone-time I get with my computer. Maybe I should name my computer. Would that be weird? I really love him. Next Israel Post: Remember When We Went to Israel? Previous Israel Post: We’re Just BeachyRead More →
Day One: Lima Off to Cusco We were up early to catch a 9:25 am flight to Cusco. (A side note here is that we were able to get cheaper flights by going through the Spanish version of the airline’s website). This flight was only an hour and our little traveler did well – even made a friend. Our taxi was waiting when we arrived and we were off to the Picoaga Hotel (now the Hotel Costa Del Sol Ramada Cusco). The Picoaga was previously a colonial house complete with a beautiful courtyard and a central fountain. We were greeted with Coca Tea which isRead More →
Arrival and Settling Peru is a direct six-hour and 35-minute flight from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston. My child, Will, was 18 months old at the time of the trip so, even though he’s a good traveler and had flown before, I still had airplane anxiety. Fortunately, that part was fine. Our flight left Houston at 3:50 pm and arrive in Lima at 11:26 pm. We checked into the Sheraton around 1 am. Fun fact – Lima, Peru is in the same time zone as Houston – so, high fives to no jet lag! Even though we do have a good little travelerRead More →
