Houston Area Clubs, Groups, and Organizations for Kids
“A Christ-centered character and leadership development program for girls 5 to 18 years of age.”
“4‑H is delivered by Cooperative Extension—a community of more than 100 public universities across the nation that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. For more than 100 years, 4‑H has welcomed young people of all beliefs and backgrounds, giving kids a voice to express who they are and how they make their lives and communities better.”

Houston Area Councils: Sam Houston Area Council, Bay Area Council, and Three Rivers Council
- Cub Scouts – For boys and girls Grades K-5, Cub Scouting is the foundation of our organization and involves the whole family as parents pitch in to plan and deliver activities.
- Scouts, BSA – For boys and girls 11-17 years old, this is the traditional Scouting experience. While there is guidance from experienced leaders, Scouts take their own lead, exploring places they’ve never been as they dive into the rugged world of outdoor adventure. Troops are not coed (though there is a pilot program for this but maintaining gender-specific patrols).
- Sea Scouts, Explorers, Venturing – These are coed programs for young adults ages 13 (and have completed the 8th grade) through 20. They are theme specific.
CU is the parent organization that offers the Quest Clubs and Frontier Girls programs. They have an emphasis “to promote lifelong learning.” Similar to traditional scouting programs they use badges to encourage a deeper understanding and experience about a topic. The program is unique in that is can be used by individuals or groups so “troops” are simple to set up and can easily be made into a homeschool co-op. In fact the program was created by homeschoolers. There are currently more than 1200 individual badges in nine different Areas of Discovery and new badges are released every month.
- Quest Clubs – Single sex or co-ed groups. Designed so all ages can participate in a single club. Highly flexible
- Frontier Girls – Girls only, focuses on patriotism, life skills, and community service
“A volunteer Catholic Faith-based youth movement that teaches responsibility, promise, commitment, leadership, service, and loyalty. We explore nature, the outdoors, the community, service to others, and the Catholic faith.”
For girls in Kindergarten through 12th grade; focused on leading, learning, and doing.
A secular, inclusive, Co-ed, family scout group
A secular offshoot of the BSA program. They focus on a program that “…harkens back to the origins of scouting: promoting self-reliance, good citizenship, training in habits of observation, and loyalty. Our badgework and program are simple, our uniform is minimal. We teach real outdoor skills and engage in adventures, campouts, and community-building. Service is one of our core tenets…” | Currently, there are no Houston area chapters but individuals can participate as Lone Scouts.
Ages 3-18, “…to provide opportunities for young people to fulfill their potential as caring responsible individuals through informal activities in a spiritual, open, and loving atmosphere that celebrates their diversity.” | Houston Chapter Facebook Page
“A Church-Based, Christ-Centered, Boy-Focused mentoring and discipleship journey…set in the context of outdoor adventure, boys from Kindergarten through 12th grade…they are challenged to grow in character, understand their purpose, serve their community, and develop practical leadership skills to carry out the mission for which they were created.”
“…a fraternal Catholic nonprofit apostolate for priests, men, and young men looking for a life of adventure coupled with virtue.”
