National American Indian Heritage Month – Celebrate Life and Love!

November is National American Indian Heritage Month and, in Houston, we celebrate by honoring the rich history and culture of Native American tribes. Across town there are so many opportunities, from educational workshops to cultural performances. Small or large there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Some of the events for younger children are storytelling and traditional dance performances. Places like the children’s museums and libraries often host these events. For a larger scale celebration, we look to our local Native American tribes who often perform downtown at Avenida Houston. Each way provides a chance to connect with the community and learn more about Native American traditions.

When we celebrate National American Indian Heritage Month it allows us to recognize the contributions of Native American people to American history and culture. Further, by increasing awareness and understanding, we can promote respect for diverse cultures.
