Fishing Derby DETAILS

Young anglers from 6 yrs. to 16 yrs. are invited to participate in KMP’s youth fishing derby! There is no cost to participate.
Young anglers may bring their own equipment and style of bait. We will also have some limited amounts of baits available. Parents may fish alongside their children, although they must bring their own equipment, bait, etc. and their catches will not be included in any totals. Parents may also assist their young anglers with things like baiting hooks, removing fish from hooks, and detangling lines. Parents may not cast or retrieve fish on a participant’s line. Fish caught or retrieved by parents will not be counted in age categories or accomplishments.
Anglers will be divided into categories based on age. Derby coordinators hold the right to combine or eliminate age categories based on registration. Registered anglers and walk-ups will be assigned age categories the morning of the contest.
Parents, while registering yourself, please be sure to register your child’s name and age to ensure that angler categories are accurate as possible.
Prizes and/or awards will be given within age categories, and for certain accomplishments such as largest fish, most fish caught, etc. Coordinators also hold the right to award or not award prizes based on participation or lack of accomplishment. No prizes are guaranteed.
Fish must be caught by legal means. For information on fishing requirements for Texas please refer to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Outdoor Annual. It is available on the TPWD website and as an app. All fish caught during the derby will be considered catch and release. Any fish caught in the largest fish category must meet minimum requirements with in the TPWD requirements for Family Fishing Lakes before an angler can take possession and take home the fish, at the judge’s and coordinator’s’ discretion. State fishing licenses will not be required since all contest participants are under 17 years of age, but any parent wishing to fishing alongside their youth must have a license.
