Open Garden Day with the Harris Co. Master Gardeners Open Garden Day at Weekley Center is a children’s program organized and presented by the Harris County Master Gardeners Association.  We are the volunteer arm of the Harris County A. & M. Extension Services. Activities:   1.  Every child can plant a couple of small pots with calendula seeds.  This flowering plant will add color to your home, porch or garden from September through winter (needs minimal frost protection if outdoors). Open Garden Day with the Harris Co. Master Gardeners July’s Open Garden Day will be an “open house” format with supplies and Master Gardener volunteers available from 10:00 to 11:30.  You may participate anytime during this period.   Activities:   1.  Craft projects will include an opportunity to learn about butterflies and lady beetles while making a 3-dimensional butterfly and a lady beetle stick fan.   2.  The children will have a chance to be creative by using pipe stems, wiggly eyes, pom poms, felt, cardstock and popsicle sticks to design and make animals, plants or other objects.   3.  As always, we will have a hands-in-the-dirt planting project.Read More →
