From the organizer:

Emancipation Park 150th Juneteenth Celebration

The event commemorates Emancipation Park’s sesquicentennial anniversary and the June 19, 1865, abolition of slavery in Texas. The park, which is the oldest public park in Houston, was founded in 1872 by a group of community leaders led by four local freedmen and the community as a place for unity, empowerment, remembrance and the celebration of emancipation and Juneteenth.

This event honors their memory and marks Emancipation Park’s 150 years of service to the community. Staying true to the vision of the park’s founders, the event will foster economic empowerment for local vendors, offer opportunities for learning and dialogue and bring the community together in celebration.
