How hot is it? It’s so hot if you read in the sunlight your book will catch fire. But, seriously. It’s hot. I know we’ve had a cold front this week that has brought the chill into the 90’s but it’s still hot. If you’re too hot to move it’s probably time to grab a book and enjoy that air conditioning. In an effort to commiserate, conserve your energy and pick a book from our Summer Hot List. Here are eight books that like the heat as much as we do. Come on, you like the heat, right? It’s why we live in Texas! Â Hello,Read More →
Inc.com has a book list from Steve Jobs. I’m assuming it was compiled from old info… I feel they may be reaching a little saying that Steve Jobs would want us to read them. But, it is always interesting what interesting people do and, consequently, read. It’s a varied list. Some names we know, so that are a bit obscure. Their article also include some “fun factoids” – who doesn’t enjoy a little trivia? In regards to the list they say, “…almost all the books are about a single individual overcoming enormous odds and obstacles in order to transform either the world, himself, or both.” YouRead More →
I’ve been reading – a lot. Right now it’s been quantity with a loose hold on quality. So far, this year I’ve gone through. In no particular order: (The book covers use referral links. Read our disclosure policy for more info.) What Alice Forgot, by Liane Moriarty – What a fun book! My girlfriends and I reference it often. So many times you wonder, “What if I had done this instead of that?” Alice doesn’t precisely explore that but it is in the vein. Alice has an accident and wakes up and 10 years of her life have gone by. Poof! Three kids, in theRead More →
The Billionaire Book List I’m a sucker for lists, so here’s a good one from Business Insider on a topic that is near and dear to my heart – financial happiness (does that give you warm fuzzies too?). Apparently, these are on the “fave” lists of Warren Buffett and Mark Cuban. You know what doesn’t give me warm fuzzies? Slideshows. So, here, for your enjoyment, are bullets (party on): The Intelligent Investor: The Definitive Book on Value Investing. A Book of Practical Counsel (Collins Business Essentials) Making the Modern World: Materials and Dematerialization The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy The Innovator’s Dilemma: The RevolutionaryRead More →
What should Kindergarteners read? As we approach the beginning of our Kindergarten school year I decided to compile a list of books for us to embark upon. Where do you begin? With a bunch of other smart people’s work. So, naturally, I googled “book list for kindergarteners.” Thanks 3,620,000 choices!? I chose only the best and the brightest. The six lists I used were from the top search options; they seemed to be more national than local (except for the Houston one, but it’s my list so…); and, they had a lot of options. From here I spent an hour or so compiling the lists byRead More →
photo credit: .thana✌ The May Stack is proabably a bit of wishful thinking, again, as, this one is another busy month, BUT, hark on high, I finished a book! I even put in a little time on some of the others, but not to completion. I’m even toying around with joining a book club. It seems like a good idea, except they seem to work on my type of lax schedule, so who knows if they’ll actually pick a book for this month… The Stack: Naamah’s Kiss, by Jacqueline Carey Seeing Redd: The Looking Glass Wars, Book 2, by Frank Beddor Shutter Island, by Dennis Lehane AnRead More →
The April Stack didn’t get much of a facelift, nor did it see much action. Let’s hope May will bestow upon me the gift of “alone time.” The Stack: Naamah’s Kiss, by Jacqueline Carey Vengance in Death, J.D. Robb Seeing Redd: The Looking Glass Wars, Book 2, by Frank Beddor Shutter Island, by Dennis Lehane An Echo in the Bone, Diana Gabaldon Last of the Red-Hot Vampires, by Katie Mac Alister Phantom of the Opera, by Gaston Leroux photo credit: The Travelling Bum Previous Month Next MonthRead More →

It is imperative that kiddos have a nightstand. Where else would they put their stack of books? As we gear up for our Israel trip the nightstand is loaded pretty heavily with Bible stories (kids books are a good way for mommies and daddies to brush up on their religion, too!). These are the ones we’re working through from our most recent trip to the library: At the Break of Day, by Nikki Grimes A baby born in Bethlehem, by Martha Whitmore Hickman Bible Lands, by Jonathan N. Tubb The Creation Story, illustrated by Norman Messenger David and Goliath, by Leonard Everett Fisher The Deep BlueRead More →
