May Hard Hat Tour aboard the Battleship TEXAS
Reservations required, minimum age 14
Go behind the locked gates and see Battleship Texas in a whole new way. Lead by the First TEXAS Volunteers, this 3.5-hour tour is unlike any other!
Looking for something fun and different to do? Ever wonder what’s behind all those locked doors aboard the Battleship TEXAS? Well look no more; we have just the thing for you! In conjunction with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department’s (TPWD), the First TEXAS Volunteers (FTV) will host a Hard Hat Tour, Saturday, May 19th, 2018 aboard the Battleship TEXAS.
There is no regular admission fee charged for the tour, instead, a minimum donation of $50.00 per person is asked for this tour. There are six different tour times to choose from: 8:30 am – 9:15 am – 10:00 am – 10:45 am – 12:00 pm and 12:45 pm. This tour will last approximately 3 ½ hours. Participants will be able to see areas of the ship rarely seen by the public.
In conjunction with the “Hard Hat Tour” this year, FTV is pleased to announce the “Specialty” Hard Hat Tour focusing on the Normandy invasion of 1944. This tour will take place the same day, May 19th, at 3:00 pm and will last approximately 2 ½ hours. A minimum donation of $30.00 per person is asked for participation in the tour.
The Battleship TEXAS was a major component of “The Longest Day” and visitors will gain an appreciation for the naval contribution to this watershed event and visit locations aboard the ship in which decisions and events were made and carried out.
For anyone wishing to attend either or both of these tours you must be at least 14 years of age and older. Reservations are required. Participants need to bring a small pocket flashlight, wear comfortable clothes (you may get a little dirty), good walking shoes for climbing numerous stairs/ladders and a camera if you wish. Hard hats are provided, and water will be available along the tour route during breaks. Promptness is required, as start times are strictly observed. Come join us and see the ship like you have never seen her before and 100% of all monies raised goes to helping us ensure that the last remaining dreadnought style ship, one of the most important cultural resources of this state, will be here for future generations to enjoy.
