Relaxed, island-style birding introduction for families.

Park rangers invite you to join us on a brief birding orientation and hike to discover some of the great wildlife observation opportunities on Galveston Island. We’ll discuss identification, field skills, listing, and why this island is a birding paradise!

Never used a pair of binoculars? We’ll have a short instruction period at 1pm to introduce and lend binoculars as well as a short demonstrate birding etiquette before we begin at 1:30pm.

Binoculars, scope, and lots of information available to everyone. Pets welcome on leash, but can make birding in a group more challenging.

What to bring:

  • Park permit (left in vehicle)
  • Water bottle
  • Hiking  and birding gear (dress for the outdoors)
  • Binoculars if you have them (option to borrow from Ranger)
