Bring your little ones to listen to a story every Friday morning in the McGovern Centennial Garden’s Family Garden. After the reading, children are invited to participate in a fun activity like coloring a picture or planting a seed to take home.

Mud Day Celebration

Saturday, June 30 from 10 am to 12 pm

Come prepared for a marvelously muddy good time as we celebrate International Mud Day in our Nature Play Area. Whether you wallow in the mud, stomp in it, paint with it, build with it, or simply make make mud pies, you’re sure to have a great time.

Wear old clothes and bring a beach towel. You can hose down after the fun!

This is a drop-in event.  If you know you plan to come with a large group of more than 6 people, please call us at 713.667.6550 to let us know. Thanks!

ARCHERY IN THE PARK
Tuesday, July 3 from 9 a.m. to noon
Join a Level 3 USA archery coach for an evening of family fun using Precinct 4’s mobile
archery range. Ages 7+.

SUMMER POP-UP ACTIVITIES
Tuesdays, July 3, 10, 24, & 31 and Saturday, July 28 at 10 a.m. 
Join a staff naturalist for a hands-on nature activity or lesson.

NATURE CENTER WITHOUT WALLS
Wednesday, July 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A naturalist leads this ongoing program to provide updates on the preserve, local wildlife,
and nature.

CANOEING AND FISHING
Wednesdays, July 11 & 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, July 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For canoeing and fishing, meet Precinct 4’s Trails As Parks staff at the canoe launch. Wear
weather-appropriate attire, including closed toed shoes, a hat, and sunscreen. Ages 13+ for canoeing.

PROJECT WILD EDUCATOR WORKSHOP
Saturday, July 14 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A workshop geared to formal and non-formal educators. To register or for more details, visit tpwd.texas.gov/calendar/project-wild-growing-up-wild-workshops 

Registration required. Scholarships available.

VOLUNTEER DAY
Sunday, July 15 from 9 a.m. to noon
Meet staff at the park kiosk to remove invasive plant species during this volunteer workday.
Hand tools and gloves are recommended, but some will be provided. Ages 10+.

THIRD MONDAY BIRD COUNT AT KMP
Monday, July 16 from 7:30 a.m. to noon
Join the Houston Audubon Society for this monthly bird count. Previous counts have
identified more than 35 species at KickerilloMischer Preserve.

JR. RANGER CAMP – SUMMER DAY CAMP
Monday-Friday, July 16-19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and July 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Wildlife Day, Environmental Awareness Day, Fish Day, Jr. Canoe Training, and Friday is an off-site field trip to Sea Center Texas (transportation provided).

Ages 10-13 can earn a Jr. Ranger badge and certificate.

TAI CHI IN THE PARK
Wednesday, July 18 and Saturday, July 28 at 8 a.m.
Join this volunteer-led Tai Chi class at the far end of the back parking lot, opposite the
restrooms. Call Diane for questions or to confirm attendance at 281-757-7811.

JR. CANOE TRAINING
Wednesday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to noon
Receive a certification to participate in Precinct 4 canoe trips. Ages 10 to 15. Equipment
provided.

Watercolor painting fun and lesson on the beach!

Uncover a new way to be inspired by nature!

Let the beauty found in Galveston Island State Park inspire you to pick up a brush and lay down some color. Create a one-of-a-kind souvenir, and make some memories with Ranger Lisa. All art supplies ready and available for use. Fun for the whole family!


Where: We will meet at the day use beach, near the boardwalk, for spectacular views and a quick art lesson. In case of inclement weather, please check with park headquarters.

Who: Park Ranger Lisa Reznicek is inviting everyone to join

What to expect:

This introductory painting program will review the important skills of water coloring and give visitors a chance to create their own painting. Everyone is invited for this easy lesson, but pets must be on leash. ADA accessible beach wheelchair available to rent at main park office. Restroom access.

**Groups larger than 15 people, please contact Ranger Lisa for a private event.

What to bring:
• Creativity or curiosity
• Beach towel (to sit on, or just plop down on the sand with me)
• Water for you to drink
• Comfortable shoes or go barefoot!

Mommy Mingle is held every first Wednesday of the month (September – June) from 10 a.m. to noon in the Tot*Spot alcove. The event is included with general admission.
