Smithsonian Magazine’s Annual Museum Day
Museum Day is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. The Museum Day ticket provides free admission for two people on Saturday, September 22, 2018.
One printed ticket will allow FREE entry for two visitors. You are only allowed to download one ticket to one museum on Museum Day.

Museum Day Hours: 10:00 a.m. ? 5:00 p.m. (CST)The 1940 Air Terminal Museum is housed in the original art-deco Houston Municipal Airport building at present-day William P. Hobby Airport. The Museum showcases the rich heritage of civil aviation, including the airlines, general aviation and business aviation. Exhibits include Houston’s fascinating aviation history.
ExhibitsThe 1940 Air Terminal Museum has recently acquired the historic hangar designated by Hobby airport as WR-4. The hangar will house the museum’s collection of aircraft, and also has ample space to serve as a work shop for projects, as well as displaying artifacts.

ExhibitsThe Museum has a variety of long-term exhibits including Dinosaurs, Ice Age Mammals, Stone Arrow and Spear points, Minerals, Taxidermy Animals, Texas & Local History, and Live Animals including an Observation Bee Hive.

The Health Museum’s mission is to foster wonder and curiosity about health, medical science and the human body. The Health Museum has been a Smithsonian Affiliate since 2017.
Exhibits: The Body as a Work of ArtMore than Skin Deep is designed as an immersive, interactive educational experience to address current topics in medical science, healthcare and society with the purpose of transforming behaviors that adversely impact our self-concept and ultimately our health.

Exhibits: Fashion Follows FunctionThis is a new exhibit about how Mary Moody Northen grew from shy debutante to wife and socialite to head of more than 50 family businesses, philanthropist and adventurer, and how her wardrobe reflected those evolving roles. Self-guided audio tours are available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and behind-the-scenes tours are offered Friday through Sunday at 4:15 p.m.

The Museum’s primary focus is the life of Sam and Margaret Houston, their family, and other individuals and events important in the early history, cultures, and development of Texas and the Southwest, particularly during the period of 1832-1863 and as they relate to Texas today.

Museum Day Hours: 10:00 a.m. ? 5:00 p.m. (CST)Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum is located on Lamar’s Campus at Jimmy Simmons Blvd. (formerly University Drive) and Highway 69. The museum is a 16-building replica of Gladys City, the oil boomtown that sprang up overnight when the Lucas Gusher blew in on Spindletop Hill January 10, 1901, marking the beginning of the Petroleum Age. The museum complex includes the 1941 Lucas Gusher Monument, the replica Lucas Gusher derrick and gusher, and exhibit buildings furnished with items from the late 1890?s and early 1900?s that depict daily life in Gladys City and Beaumont.
ExhibitsWe will have a car show from 12 – 5 p.m. to celebrate Lamar University’s homecoming. We will also blow the gusher at 4 p.m. this day.
